Two Spot Gobi

This blog post will be about one of my all time favourite bands, Two Spot Gobi. I have yet to meet someone who dislikes their music, and I’m hoping that after reading this, you will go and check them out and fall in love with them like I have!

TSG are a Brighton-based band, with a pretty unique setup of band members. They have the usual drummer (Ben Matthews), electric guitarist (Dino Randhawa), and bassist (Ben Daniels), added to which they have an acoustic guitarist (James Robinson, also lead singer), cellist (Rob Lewis), and trumpeter (Matt Ellis). Combined together, they create music somewhere between acoustic soul and upbeat grooves, with massive beats, infectious melodies, and an eclectic mix of musical styles, resulting in an organic-pop sound unlike anything else.

They currently have one album out, Everywhere You Should Have Been, and an EP entitled Demo Days (available on iTunes), which contains some of their earlier material. All their songs are fantastic, but stand out ones for me include Sunshine Lady and No More (live track from a gig at Komedia, and I was there!!). Sunshine Lady makes me instantly happy everytime I hear it, as it’s such an upbeat and optimistic song. No More is sadder, but still optimistic I feel, and it reminds me of past and present friends.

TSG are about to release their second studio album, The Sun Will Rise, in May 2011. Judging by the tracks I’ve heard them play live, this album should propel them to global fame and fortune. Or at least, spread their harmonies and optimism to many many more people. You Make It Easy has already been released as a single, and Guiding Star is released TODAY!! Both exceptional songs.

Give Two Spot Gobi a listen, and prepare to feel happier, instantly. Better yet, go see them live, as that is where they truly shine. I have been to every one of their Brighton gigs since seeing them around four years ago, and they never fail to impress me with their energy and passion.

Here’s hoping they have a phenomenal future! Onwards!
