Space Shuttle Atlantis launched successfully this afternoon, with a perfect lift-off. The 12 day mission will carry 3.5 tonnes of supplies to the ISS, and once Atlantis returns, the final Space Shuttle will be retired to a museum, and the 30 year old space shuttle programme will shut down. The BBC provides a good overview of the Space Shuttle launch, as well as a thorough history of the space shuttle programme.
Also, here’s an awesome picture of the launch. Perfect timing!
Amazing, historic, sad, and beautiful. Onwards!
