Quantum Levitation

This amazing video (courtesy of Association of Science – Technology Centers (ASTC)) by researchers from Tel-Aviv University depicts quantum levitation, also known as quantum locking. Despite reading about it, I still don’t fully understand it. Explanations for what is happening can be found on the Quantum Levitation website, and this article also provides some extra information. It involves superconductivity, the Meissner effect, and flux tubes, but that’s about as far as I got.

It is truly fantastic to watch, and just looks so cool! I want one! Onwards!
