Jewel Caterpillar

Sometimes, creatures found in nature are just weird. Beautiful, but weird.

Take, for example, this stunning Jewel Caterpillar, officially known as Acraga Coa. Found in Central and South America, this odd-looking creature metamorphoses into another brilliant creature, an orange moth.

I’ve always find metamorphosis fascinating, and caterpillars are kings at it. The transformation from something relatively ugly into another thing as beautiful as a butterfly is fascinating. Although in the case of the Jewel Caterpillar, I think I prefer the way it looks over it’s final orange moth form!

More images of the wonderful Jewel Caterpillar can be found on Project Noah, submitted by photographer Gerardo Aispuru. Check them out. Onwards!
