Here’s a small update about the GM wheat trial at Rothamsted Research, following on from my previous “Don’t Destroy Research” post.
Despite the pleas of the researchers, the Take The Flour Back group are still planning on “decontaminating”, aka vandalising and destroying, the research being carried out at Rothamsted. The call for a proper debate between the two sides on the subject of GM wheat did not go ahead, as the anti-GM protesters couldn’t find anyone to represent them. Perhaps this is because none of their arguments are based on fact, and they knew they would lose whatever debate was held.
In a new twist, a prominent member of the Green Party (Jenny Jones) has said she’ll attend the anti-GM protest, and encourage the vandalism. Excellent information about this topic (from now ex-Green Party members) can be found on The Telegraph (Don’t vote Green until they drop the anti-science zealotry) and A Latent Existence (Why Take The Flour Back are wrong and I’m leaving the Green Party). Both are highly recommended reading.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Science is vital. Onwards!
