The Last Of Us

There are many amazing new trailers out from this year’s E3, including The Last of Us, by Naughty Dog. Here’s their blurb about the game:

The Last of Us is genre-defining experience blending survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Cities are abandoned and being reclaimed by nature. Remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a young teenage girl who’s braver and wiser beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.”

The above cinematic trailer was released late last year, and sets the tone of the game perfectly. At E3, a new gameplay trailer was shown off, and it looks incredible. Check it out:

I’m not sure how much of that is scripted and how much is you actually controlling the character, but it sure does look mightily impressive. Very brutal, but it is a survival horror action game after all. Another cinematic trailer was also released, entitled “Joel and Ellie Truck Ambush Cinematic“, which can be seen below:

What I find especially appealing about the game is that it reminds me of I Am Legend. The overrun cityscapes and deadly plague wiping out most of humanity bear striking similarities in both cases, as does the lone survivor with a companion (girl or dog) fighting against the odds. I’m a big fan of I Am Legend (both the film and the original novel by Richard Matheson), so the fact that The Last of Us is similar is only a good thing!

This game almost makes me want to buy a PS3… Almost. Onwards!
