Microscopic Images Of Snow Crystals

snow_crystalsSnowflakes are incredibly beautiful, and come in a wide range of shapes and sizes.

Although beautiful to admire with the naked eye, when they’re examined under the microscope, their beauty is greatly enhanced. Over at Twisted Sifter, they have a collection of 25 microscopic images of snow crystals, and they are stunning.

As well as depicting the beauty of snow crystals, it also shows the power of electron microscopy. The magnification that can be achieved, and the detail that can be observed, is incredible. A full image showing the range of magnification, from 93x to 36000x, can be found here.

Cool stuff. Onwards!
