“Free to Play: The Movie is a feature-length documentary that follows three professional gamers from around the world as they compete for a million dollar prize in the first Dota 2 International Tournament. In recent years, E Sports has surged in popularity to become one of the most widely-practiced forms of competitive sport today. A million dollar tournament changed the landscape of the gaming world and for those elite players at the top of their craft, nothing would ever be the same again. Produced by Valve, the film documents the challenges and sacrifices required of players to compete at the highest level.” (YouTube)
This is a fascinating documentary about E Sports, focusing on Dota 2 and the International Tournament. It follows three professional gamers (Fear, Hyhy, and Dendi), shows their family life, how their gaming has affected them and the people around them, and has extra interviews with friends, team mates, and managers of the teams.
I believe E Sports will take off in a big way. The tournament shown here is just the beginning, and soon we’ll have more and more professional gamers, who will be more popular than current celebrities or sports persons (some even are, especially in Asia). And that is a good thing. If I were younger, this is the type of thing I would have loved to do.
What do you think of E Sports? Onwards!
