Beautiful Bees

BeeBees are vitally important insects, transferring pollen from plant to plant, ensuring their survival. They are also actually rather beautiful creatures, especially when viewed in microscopic detail.

This is what biologist Sam Droege did, using photography hardware developed for the military. He has now built up a collection of stunning and intimate photographs of a variety of different bee species (National Geographic). I’m especially impressed by the iridescence of them, which is purely natural. The second image, of the bee covered in pollen, is very impressive.

Which is your favourite? Onwards!
