Today’s Throwback Thursday is all about words. The above video, by Vsauce, goes into detail about different types of wordplay, including aphorisms, syntactic ambiguity, paraprosdokians, and spoonerisms.
Two articles by the BBC next: the first is “Why did LOL infiltrate the language?“, and is an interesting article on the history and usage of LOL. The second article is about Americanisms entering the English language, with 50 of the most common ones sent in by readers.
New Scientist had a lengthy article on “The secret life of pronouns“. A social psychologist discusses how pronouns reveal a lot more about us and language than we thought.
Finally, TerribleMinds wrote an article on the “25 things I want to say to aspiring writers“. The most important point? Write. Write, write, then write some more. Sounds obvious that you need to write to be a writer!
That’s it for this week’s Throwback Thursday. Onwards!
