Artificial Intelligence In Films

Ex-MachinaFilms have a long history of showing artificial intelligence, but only a few have managed to actually get it right.

With the recent release of Ex Machina (an amazing film, go see it), BuzzFeed  created a list of “Six films that weren’t completely stupid about artificial intelligence“. The robots in these six films are: Ava in Ex Machina; HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey; the Tyrell Nexus replicants in Blade Runner; Joshua in War Games; Rossum’s Universal Robots in R.U.R.; and Marvin the Paranoid Android in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Each of these robots display something about artificial intelligence that makes us think. Concerning Ada and Ex Machina, there’s a really interesting debate over at Film4 about artificial intelligence, focusing on whether AI have rights, and whether they will do anything to survive.

Remember, it’s pronounced Ex Mak-ina, not Ex Masheena. Onwards!
