Last week, on Wednesday 22nd April, the Calbuco volcano in Chile erupted. Considering how connected we are in our modern world, videos and photos of the eruption quickly appeared, and they are stunning.
The video above is a time lapse of the eruption, showing its full fury over the course of the day, along with stills of the day. Another video showing the full force in real time can be seen here. To read more about the eruption in detail, and to see some incredible pictures (including volcanic lightning), head over to Slate, Weather, The New York Times Dot Earth, and The Independent. The colours at sunset were incredible. Daunting, scary, but amazing. Onwards!
