“London. 1868. The Industrial Revolution. An age of invention and prosperity, built on the backs of working class slaves. As gangster assassin Jacob Frye, you will recruit your gang to fight for justice on behalf of the oppressed working class. Lead the underworld to take back London in a visceral adventure filled with action, intrigue and brutal combat.” (YouTube)
Debut trailer for the latest game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. The previous game, AC Unity, wasn’t met with great enthusiasm, mainly due to gamebreaking bugs and glitches found upon release. The developers behind the franchise, Ubisoft, acknowledged this, and they’re hoping to do better with AC Syndicate. I’m a fan of the series, and the trailers they make are pretty cool, but the yearly release schedule is tiring for both the developers and gamers alike (I actually haven’t played any of AC3 onwards, despite enjoying the AC1 and AC2).
For AC Syndicate, GameSpot have an “Everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Syndicate” article, with plenty of links to keep you entertained and informed. Ubisoft also released a gameplay walkthrough of the game in its pre-alpha footage phase. The close quarters fighting looks brutal, and the rope launcher adds a new element to movement and combat. It looks like Ubisoft have borrowed elements of the Batman Arkham games, as well as Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (with the ability to lure people to your position). Being English, I like the idea of exploring London during the Industrial Revolution, and as is usual for AC games, the environment looks incredible.
We’ll see if the critics are as justifiably harsh on this release as they were for AC Unity. Onwards!
